Happy Birthday, Bob!
Y’all may have seen in the media that Bob Dylan is 70 years old today.
I think that everyone has a Dylan story. Mine goes back a dozen years or so. I’m afflicted with brain cell loss, I guess, because I can’t quite remember which son I was pregnant with at the time. But I was pregnant and my sister came up from Alabama to join me in going to a Paul Simon concert.
Me and my sister. 2009. Note to self: get an up-to-date picture with your sis and wear lipstick this time.
So, my sister and I were on our way out to the concert when we ran into my funny friend, Dean. He asked us who was opening for Paul Simon. We said that it was sort of a shared concert between two acts. So he inquired about the other act. It was Bob Dylan. We knew nothing about him. So, Dean, who had attended several Dylan concerts said that you know that you’re at a good Dylan concert if:
1. He remembers the lyrics.
2. You can understand the lyrics.
3. He introduces the band.
4. He seems coherent.
What you do you know? He did all the things on the list. And, of course, as soon as he started singing I realized that I did know Dylan and liked him, too. It was a great concert.
If I have to pick, I would say that You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go is my favorite song of his. It isn’t one of his super-well-known tunes but I really like it.
Happy Tuesday!
