Sometimes I Wonder Why

Sometimes I Wonder Why

I cook so frequently and so much.

I mean, it’s great.

I feed my folks. I accomplish things. I learn.

But sometimes I feel like I’m missing something being in the kitchen so much. I know that other people don’t spend so much time cooking and I wonder how they do it. I wonder what they eat.

Not that it is going to matter all that much, whether or not I come to a conclusion here.

Because, change is coming, of course. Not the general change that is always coming for each of us — the specific change in cooking that comes with summer and warmer temperatures. For instance, I’m probably not going to be baking bread all that much when it is 80+ each and every day. Nor will I feel like launching into much cooking when we’ve returned from the pool and everyone is prowling around like ravenous bears.

But I don’t want to eat hot dogs all summer, of course. I’d never do that, truly, and I shiver at the thought of that. I actually have a story about hot dogs and a mother that I knew who fed them daily to her children. I met her ages ago when I worked as a VISTA volunteer. But y’all don’t need that story because it is grody. We’re talking exponential yuck here.

I’m curious. What are your strategies for warm weather cooking? What do you plan. How do you get it done? Websites, menus, recipes?

I know that y’all have answers. You really came through on the margarita recipe!

Please share your hints in the comments!
