Liking a Song About a Paranoid, Homicidal Gardner
wasn’t what I was expecting.
A few months ago, I got some free mp3s from HearYa. Among the singers was a fellow known as the Tallest Man on Earth. His songs stuck out to me of all of the songs that I got — not because I loved them but because his voice irritated me. In fact, during carpool one morning, I told my second son something like, “Hey, listen to this guy…his voice will drive you crazy.”
So, of course, it makes total sense that I love him now.
If I had to place this music I’d say Dylan-esque but with his own take. I love the guitar. I love the poetic lyrics that I don’t completely understand. I love the nasal voice, even.
Here he is on the Tiny Desk Concert done by NPR:
His latest album, Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird has landed him on many a “best of 2010” list.
Check him out, y’all!
