Last Night, I Saw Paul

Last Night, I Saw Paul

Simon on Saturday Night Live. I know, yesterday wasn’t Saturday, but we were catching up. I should also say, that SNL is in the (rather large, I’ll admit it) group of shows/movies that I always, ALWAYS fall asleep during. The only things on TV that I might more frequently sleep during might be Monty Python, anything by Woody Allen and, of course, the McGlauglin Group. Those put me out like a light every time. Of course, those are all trumped by the 2 hour nap that I took during Malcolm X at the theater. The movie might have been good — I wouldn’t know since I think I actually fell asleep during the previews that time.

So, just before I drifted off, I saw Paul Simon sing some new songs. My opinion was that these songs were just okay. But, hearing these unfamiliar songs made me think about all the other Paul Simon songs I’ve loved over the years and I suddenly remembered this song. He sang it in 1974 with Phoebe Snow. I just love her voice.

Sometimes a gospel-sounding song that really moves is just the thing.

Here it is, “Gone At Last”.

Happy Tuesday!

My Margarita Recipe

My Margarita Recipe

is sort of a work in progress. But, I’ve been experimenting lately and have taken all of your wonderful suggestions and have found a recipe that is acidic enough, not too sweet, and not so alcoholic that it interferes with productivity (if you only have one…).

Here it is:

4 to 24 hours ahead juice enough limes to have 1/2 cup lime juice and enough lemons to have 1/2 cup lemon juice. (If you are thinking way ahead and it is going to be 24 hours before you consume the margaritas, you may also add some lemon and lime zest — up to 4 teaspoons. If you are consuming before 24 hours, skip the zest.) Stir 1/4 cup agave nectar into the combined juices, cover and refrigerate.

When you are ready to have the margaritas, put the lime/lemon/agave mixture in a shaker or pitcher with some ice. Add 5/8 cup triple sec and 5/8 cup silver tequila. Stir or shake well and serve over ice. (The recipe I adapted this from calls for a cup each tequila and triple sec….I thought 5/8 cup of each enough. Feel free to use a cup of each if you want….)

This makes 4-6 servings.

Happy Sunday!

Whoa, Nelly!

Whoa, Nelly!

My Saturday morning ritual (sort of, if I remember) is to visit Apartment Therapy and take in a house tour or two before getting down to business with my Saturday stuff.

You may have guessed by the other tours that I’ve linked to in the past that my own design preferences run toward mid-century modern mixed with older and newer pieces. Also, I like color and order. Now, I should mention that none of this is evident in my own house. These are my druthers — not my reality, you understand.

Well, the house tour I’m pointing out to y’all today is not mid-century. It is ramshackle granny farmhouse plus color fanatic plus glamorous Dr. Seuss sensibility…..you know what, there aren’t words, turns out.

You just have to see it.

You’ll think it crazy or you’ll love it.

It is the creation of artist, Elizabeth Chapin.

Happy Saturday, y’all!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!

I’m so glad that it’s Friday. You know, Friday isn’t quite the same when work and school schedules change as they are about to do, for summer break. Change is good though. I guess that I’ll just relish this Friday feeling while I can.

In my last post, I talked about slithering out my car window like Bo Duke. You see, here in the faded out seventies photo, that I’ve always been a fan. This was my Friday outfit for a while, in elementary school. Dukes of Hazard t-shirt, jeans, and halo of frizzy hair….check, check, check.

On this Friday, may I suggest you head on over to Hear Ya and hear the latest song they’ve featured called, “Born With a Broken Heart” by the David Wax Museum.

Its a rollicking song reminiscent of Paul Simon, sort of.

Here it is on YouTube:

Happy Friday, again!
