Doubles

Doubles

Hey, y’all, Jon and I were on the Sartorialist recently and I thought that you’d like to know.

Well, not really us, but folks that look really, really similar.

First up, here we have an unknown member of the Barlow tribe. Blonde hair, blue eyes, face shape, mouth….he even has on navy and blue. He really reminds me of a younger Jon.

Second, we have a Milan gal here. What I want to know is, how did we get issued the very same arms and legs? I mean really exactly the same. Quite similar face shape and chin, too. Though, I must say that I will never have a beautiful mane of hair like hers. This makes me want to find a cool strapless dress. I think it’ll find a place on my permanent Goodwill list right after colored pyrex bowls and fiesta ware.

This world is a funny place.

Happy Wednesday, y’all!

Happy Birthday, Bob!

Happy Birthday, Bob!

Y’all may have seen in the media that Bob Dylan is 70 years old today.

I think that everyone has a Dylan story. Mine goes back a dozen years or so. I’m afflicted with brain cell loss, I guess, because I can’t quite remember which son I was pregnant with at the time. But I was pregnant and my sister came up from Alabama to join me in going to a Paul Simon concert.

Me and my sister. 2009. Note to self: get an up-to-date picture with your sis and wear lipstick this time.

So, my sister and I were on our way out to the concert when we ran into my funny friend, Dean. He asked us who was opening for Paul Simon. We said that it was sort of a shared concert between two acts. So he inquired about the other act. It was Bob Dylan. We knew nothing about him. So, Dean, who had attended several Dylan concerts said that you know that you’re at a good Dylan concert if:

1. He remembers the lyrics.
2. You can understand the lyrics.
3. He introduces the band.
4. He seems coherent.

What you do you know? He did all the things on the list. And, of course, as soon as he started singing I realized that I did know Dylan and liked him, too. It was a great concert.

If I have to pick, I would say that You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go is my favorite song of his. It isn’t one of his super-well-known tunes but I really like it.

Happy Tuesday!

Summer Food Ideas

Summer Food Ideas

A few weeks ago, I asked y’all for ideas for summer foods and y’all had some great ones. Then I thought about summer and how I’d like to try some new things, have a good schedule of foods to give me a framework to start with, and not make my kitchen hot as all get out by running the oven.

Here’s what I’m going to do. First, I’m going to have a schedule for what we eat on a specific day.

For instance:

Mondays: Fish
Tuesday: Stir Fry or Panini
Wednesday: Main Course Salad
Thursday: Breakfast for dinner
Friday: Italian
Saturday: Something from this cookbook. (This will also provide leftover for Sunday lunch.)
Sunday (night): BLT’s (Barlow tradition)

I’m going to try lots of new things in these categories. For instance, I’ll be trying new bean and grain salads for salad night. I’ll be serving pasta dishes we’ve never eaten before and new bruschetta recipes, like this one for artichoke basil bruschetta and this one for leek toasts with blue cheese on Italian night. I want to serve fish at least once a week. So, this means that we’ll be having fish tacos and po’boys, of course, but we’ll also try some other quick cooking recipes, too. And, I’m going to be trying one recipe per week from Pam Anderson’s Perfect One Dish Dinners cookbook. Everything that I’ve made so far from this book has been great. The recipes are easy and make enough for Sunday lunch leftovers and that is a sure way to make my Sunday happy.

So, that’s it. Of course, you know that if I run across something wonderful that I’ll be sure to let you know.

Here’s to trying new things…here’s to summer cooking!

Happy Sunday, y’all!

A Lovely Little Project

A Lovely Little Project

I ran across this lovely little project the other day. It is a clutch (purse) made from beautiful fabric on the delightful website, Purl Soho.

This is just a great idea for using a beautiful piece of fabric. I’ve actually been looking for a clutch lately because I’m going to a wedding in July and I need one. I’ve not found a good one, yet. Of course, I need to clarify that I’ve only been looking at the Goodwill, but still.

Maybe I’ll give this project a try. It looks easy and fast.

Happy Friday, everyone!
